Player Grades
Jaylen Brown
40 min, 16 pts (5-20 FG, 2-6 3P, 4-8 FT), 4 reb, 4 ast, 1 TO, 1 blk, -19
Brutal night. 5-of-20 from the field, couldn’t get anything to fall, and finished -19. Forced a lot of tough shots and the offense stalled whenever he was the primary option. One of those nights where nothing clicked.
Dean Wade
37 min, 7 pts (2-4 FG, 1-3 3P, 2-2 FT), 5 reb, 1 ast, 0 TO, 2 stl, 1 blk, -1
Did the little things. Efficient scoring in limited attempts, solid rebounding, and a couple steals/blocks. Filled the starting spot cleanly and didn’t hurt them.
Tyrese Maxey
34 min, 29 pts (11-24 FG, 1-5 3P, 6-7 FT), 5 reb, 4 ast, 1 TO, 3 stl, 1 blk, -9
Carried the offense pretty much by himself. 29 points on decent volume, got to the line, added some steals and a block. Without Embiid or VJ he had to do everything and still produced. The rest of the starters just didn’t give him enough help.
LeBron James
33 min, 18 pts (8-15 FG, 0-3 3P, 2-6 FT), 2 reb, 5 ast, 3 TO, 2 stl, -22
Solid all-around numbers (18 points, 5 assists, 2 steals) and he tried to run things. The free-throw shooting was rough (2-of-6) but he was one of the few guys who looked like he belonged out there most of the night.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
31 min, 7 pts (3-8 FG, 1-4 3P, 0-0 FT), 3 reb, 3 ast, 1 TO, 1 stl, -18
Quiet night. A few assists and a steal but the shot wasn’t falling and he finished -18. Needed more from him as a starter with the absences.
Anfernee Simons
27 min, 5 pts (2-10 FG, 1-4 3P, 0-0 FT), 3 reb, 3 ast, 1 TO, 1 stl, 2 blk, +3
Struggled to get anything going. 2-of-10 from the field and the shot just wasn’t dropping. Gave some assists but the offense needed more production from the second unit.
Adem Bona
25 min, 6 pts (3-5 FG, 0-0 3P, 0-0 FT), 13 reb, 1 ast, 3 TO, 1 stl, 3 blk, -8
Best performance of the young season so far. 13 rebounds (5 offensive) and a few blocks in 25 minutes. Crashed the glass hard and gave them some size with Embiid sitting. Still a work in progress on the other end, but this was a step in the right direction.
Labaron Philon Jr.
13 min, 5 pts (2-4 FG, 1-2 3P, 0-0 FT), 2 reb, 1 ast, 0 TO, +9
Short stint but positive plus-minus and hit a three. Looked a little more comfortable than the debut. Still raw, but the energy was there.
